Dear American Stage Community,
As we navigate this period of leadership transition, I am writing to you on behalf of the Board of Trustees to share our vision for the coming chapters of American Stage. Each member of this Board serves because we believe deeply in the transformative power of the stories told on our stage and the vital role this theater plays in our lives. We recognize that the theatrical landscape has been profoundly transformed in recent years. Like many arts organizations across the country, we are navigating a climate defined by evolving state funding models and a significantly rising cost environment.
To ensure that we not only meet these challenges but thrive, we are taking proactive, necessary steps to steward this legacy. As American Stage begins this new chapter, the Board of Trustees has moved quickly to ensure an excellent upcoming season with stories that entertain and ignite. Our goal is to ensure the long-term sustainability of this institution we all love, while remaining true to the mission that has been the heartbeat of our community for nearly five decades.
American Stage's leadership and Board are focused on moving forward with an exciting 2026-2027 season. Should any programming adjustments be needed during this transition, we will keep you informed with the transparency and care you deserve.
I am pleased to share that we have strong leadership guiding us through this process:
Anthony Gervais: We have full confidence in Anthony as our Interim Artistic Director. Having served as our Associate Artistic Director, Anthony possesses an intimate knowledge of our artistic soul and operations. His vision for our upcoming season is already demonstrating the vision and creativity we need.
Stephanie Gularte: We are fortunate to have Stephanie serving as a strategic consultant. Given her tenure as CEO/Producing Artistic Director of American Stage from 2015 to 2021, she brings a deep understanding of our theater’s history and the expertise required to guide us through this structural transition.
We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of our donor base and patrons. Your commitment is the foundation upon which this theater stands. Coupled with the dedication of our incredibly talented and resilient staff, I am confident that we will implement the changes necessary to deliver a successful 2026-2027 season, which marks our 49th year.
These adjustments are being made with a singular focus: to position American Stage for a truly special 50th-anniversary season and to ensure that we remain a vibrant, essential part of the St. Petersburg cultural fabric for many years to come. We are committed to this theater’s future, and we are honored to walk this path with you.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we embark on this next chapter.
Best regards,
Ebrahim Busheri
