BLACK GIRL MAGIC
A new cabaret celebrating women of color who have broken barriers on Broadway, featuring iconic songs from Wicked, The Little Mermaid, and much (much) more!

Delores McKenzie (She/Her) is a versatile and captivating actress, singer, and vocal coach. She is thrilled to return to American Stage, having recently appeared as Cinderella's Stepmother in Into the Woods, and Dionne in Hair. Delores has brought her talent to a wide range of roles, including Bess in Porgy and Bess at Red Mountain Theatre, Nehebkah in Aida at Theatre Zone, Sarah in Ragtime, and Dorothy in The Wiz. From 2011–2018, she was a principal production cast member for Norwegian Cruise Lines, performing worldwide across Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, and the Caribbean, honing her craft in both live theater and concert settings. A passionate advocate for vocal education, Delores coaches aspiring singers and actors, sharing her expertise in musicality, technique, and performance presence.

Catara Brae is a native a small town called Leighton, Alabama who began her entertainment career upon graduating from high school as a singer on Norwegian Cruise Lines. From there, she began acting in regional theaters across the Southeast. As she enjoys her current role as Kibibbi in The Festival of the Lion King, she is happy to share with you just a small portion of Black Girl Magic this evening!
Mandi Jo John is thrilled to be making her debut cabaret appearance at American Stage. An accomplished vocalist and theater artist, Mandi Jo trained at UCF and has worked all over the world performing in opera, theatre, and as a featured vocalist for over 40 companies. She is a recipient of the Grady-Rayam Prize in Sacred Music (2004) and served as Miss Orlando in 2008. Mandi Jo is also the founder and executive director of Black Theatre Girl Magic, an organization seeking to lower the barrier of entry for Black and Brown women in the performing arts.

Michelle Kasanofsky has been playing piano since age 4 and is a professional musician as well as music educator. Michelle received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston and completed her B.A. degree in Performance, cum laude, at Dowling College. She continued on to achieve her Master’s Degree in Music Education from C.W. Post-Long Island University and an Education Leadership Specialist degree from Nova Southeastern University. Since 2000, Michelle has played for national touring companies at venues such as Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall and Ruth Eckerd Hall for productions including A Chorus Line, Legally Blonde, and West Side Story, as well as accompanying artists such as Bernadette Peters and The Irish Tenors. In 2021 Michelle became the resident music director at Venice Theatre.

Each immersive, guided experience will last for approximately 55 minutes. Groups will overlap, with the next group beginning their show before the previous one has ended.
